C’è chi vive per questa corsa, chi prova ad iscriversi da una vita, altri la detestano con invidia perchè non sono mai riusciti ad essere presenti. 138 Km tra passi leggendari e montagne da mettere i brividi al solo sguardo. La Maratona dles Dolomites non è una corsa ciclistica, è un mito che ogni anno si corre nel primo week end di luglio. Nata nel lontano 1987, grazie all’inestimabile bagaglio culturale di Michl Costa questo evento è arrivato ad una portata tale da uscire dagli standard di normale Granfondo, diventando un vero e proprio evento culturale, un volano capace di inalzare ogni anno il PIL dell’Alta Badia. Ogni stagione è l’appuntamento più atteso, una settimana in cui i passi dolomitici vengono invasi da ciclisti da tutto il mondo. Perfino la Gran Risa passa in secondo piano quando c’è la Maratona.
Non una corsa qualunque, ma la regina delle corse, la Maratona non è una Granfondo che decidi di andare a correre il giovedì, la sogni dall’autunno con le preiscrizioni, la prepari da dicembre e la vedi vicina anche il giorno di Natale. Ogni granfondo primaverile viene corsa in funzione della Maratona, la settimana che la precede è un rito sacro dove non si deve sbagliare nulla.

La mattina della gara è magia, la partenza a La Villa è sempre fresca, ma in alto solitamente si vede il sole sorgere. L’adrenalina sale a livelli esponenziali quando si sente il rumore degli elicotteri arrivare dal Passo Gardena, significa che manca veramente poco, il giorno dei giorni è arrivato. Il discorso di Michl Costa deve lasciare spazio ai Watt di dodici mila persone pronte ad aggredire il primo passaggio sul Campolongo. L’ingresso a Corvara è caloroso, ci sono bambini e tanto pubblico a tifare tutti. Il Passo Campolongo è un assaggio, nelle retrovie bisogna mettere piede a terra perchè i corridori al via sono troppi. Nella discesa che porta verso Arabba c’è sempre la prima selezione, le moto Rai aprono la strada sul lungo Pordoi, una salita bellissima. La discesa verso il Sella è una picchiata, fa sempre tanta selezione e al primo km di salita c’è sempre la banda musicale a scandire il ritmo. Dopo il Sellaronda, nella mente inizia a farsi vivo il pensiero del re delle Dolomiti: il Passo Giau. Una salita leggendaria, in grado di dare sberle e soddisfazioni al tempo stesso. Lo evita chi fa il percorso medio, per tutti gli altri è il vero incubo di giornata.

La Maratona è una bestia che ti toglie il sonno, la corsa delle corse, personalmente ho fatto cose folli per lei, lunghi di 300 km sui Passi Dolomitici, digiuni di 24 ore, lavori fino all’apnea. Una corsa che ha dato molto negli anni allo Swatt Club, da sempre in massa in Badia. Lo Swatt Corner sul Valparola è la benedizione finale per planare verso Corvara, l’ultimo scoglio prima della passerella sul Mur del Giat. Il post corsa è sempre bello, la chiusura delle strade obbliga tutti a rimanere in valle, a trascorrere il tempo con i compagni di squadra vivendo fino all’ultimo la giornata in mezzo a queste montagne, un inno alla lentezza e alla tranquillità in questa società che vuole andare sempre più veloce.
Cara Maratona, abbiamo già i brividi, ci vediamo domenica.

E vero che è una corsa magnifica, ma quando come è successo a me ti frantumi femore e rotula causa incidente in moto con iscrizione già pagata e chiedi solamente di trasferire l’iscrizione al prossimo anno e ricevi un rifiuto anche presentando un certificato medico viene a mancare l’aspetto umano della manifestazione. ps alla 9 colli accettato senza problemi lo spostamento
